COVID – 19 LATEST UPDATE

18th September 2020

In my last comments, I said that we were looking at ways in which we might be able to reopen the Village Hall, at least in part. Well, the good news is that this will be happening on Tuesday 22nd September.
There have been several meetings recently to try to work out how best this could be accomplished. As you will imagine, with all the ever-changing rules and regulations, this has not been easy, and it may well be many months before we can return to the simple times, but with your help and co-operation, we can at least get some activities going again.

Inevitably, there will be considerable restrictions within the Hall premises, and what follows are the plans as discussed and agreed at Monday's Committee meeting. Of course, they are subject to change at any time in the light of new government rules or our own experiences.

There will be a one-way system established within the premises. Entry will be by the side door at the rear of the car park only. Egress from the Main Hall will be via the doors at the end of the Hall, and for those using the coffee shop, via the front door. Please remember that you will not be able to enter via the front door! Hand sanitizing stations will be available at all entry and exit points, as well as outside the toilets. All the toilets will be open, but visitors are asked to use commonsense in avoiding queueing and keeping the numbers of people accessing the toilets to a minimum.

Face coverings are to be worn at all times when entering, exiting or moving around the building, but may be removed for eating and drinking and whilst undertaking active pursuits, such as dancing, pilates and yoga. Face coverings must continue to be worn during, for example, meetings and presentations and social distancing must be observed as far as possible in all areas.

You may have gathered from the above that we are intending to reopen the coffee shop in a limited capacity (hooray!). Orders will be placed and paid for at the counter (preferably using contactless cards) and will then be delivered to your table. Space will be limited to allow a maximum of four tables, each of which can seat up to four people. Visitors are asked not to attempt to combine seating areas. The kitchen area will be strictly out of bounds to all except the coffee shop manager.

As far as bookings are concerned, we already have confirmed bookings for line dancing, yoga and pilates. Private parties with limited numbers may also be booked and certain sporting activities, such as short mat bowling, will also be restarting. Certain presentations, lectures etc may be given to limited numbers - at present the maximum is 30 people in the Main Hall, though this may be revised in the light of experience. At this time, the Meeting room and servery will NOT be available, but this may be reviewed over the coming weeks.

An important change to the booking procedure is that all hirers booking on an hourly basis will be required to include an extra ¼ hour at the beginning and end of their hire periods. In other words, if you wish to book a class from 11:00 to 12:00, then you must book the period from 10:45 to 12:15. However, this extra half hour will NOT be charged to you. During these periods you will be required to thoroughly clean and sanitise any equipment, work areas, door handles etc, both before and after your class (anti-bacterial sprays and paper towels will be available). The existing rules on entering before your booked time or leaving after your booked time still apply: you can't! If charges are to be levied for the activity, hirers should try to arrange this by online facilities wherever possible.

The Terms and Conditions for hirers have been amended, and supplemented by additional Terms related to Covid-19. These can be read by clicking this link and all hirers are strongly advised to make themselves aware of them before booking as by making a booking, you are entering into a contract governed by those Terms and Conditions.

As ever, things may change! Keep an eye on the Village Hall web site, but if there are major changes, I will circulate another newsletter. In the mean time, support your village hall!

With very best wishes
