Welcome to our website!

Tintinhull is a small village filled with charm set in the south of Somerset, approximately 4.5 miles from Yeovil, sited just off the A303. There has been a settlement on this site since the Iron Ages and it is mentioned in the Domesday Book.

The village has a beautiful 13th century church, St Margaret’s of Antioch, once connected to the nearby Montacute Priory; an outstanding country pub, The Crown and Victoria; plus a National Trust site, Tintinhull Gardens, described as a gardener’s garden, beautiful and tranquil.

Hall Bookings Update

In these strange times, it's very satisfying to be able to bring you some good news.  And there's quite a lot of it about in Tintinhull at the moment!

The Village Hall re-opened officially on 22nd September and it was really heartening to see some of our 'regulars' from before rushing to book sessions so that they could restart their classes.

Naturally, everyone is being very careful to observe the various precautions set out both by government edict and by our own local rules.  We want to make it clear to everyone that the Village Hall is a safe environment in which to meet, exercise and eat!

Yes, the coffee shop is open and Janice is back on form, serving her wonderful cakes and a selection of light bites for lunch.  The tables are well spaced out and are sanitised after each use, and we encourage all-comers to get back to enjoying socialising again.

One big difference for many of our hirers has been the necessity to restrict numbers in classes to meet the social-distancing requirements.  This means that the income they can make from their classes is also reduced which, in turn, raises doubts about viability.

The Village Hall committee has given long and hard thought to the problem, having to try to do a Rishi Sunak in terms of balancing the income we need to keep the hall going against the potential loss of bookings where hirers can't afford to continue.  We have already implemented a scheme offering a free additional half-hour on all hires in order to allow for cleaning between sessions.  And now some more good news.

It has been agreed to reduce the hire cost at least until the end of this year, at which time matters will be reviewed in the light of changing circumstances.  Until then, the Standard rate for the main hall will be reduced from £13.50 per hour to £11.00 per hour and the Village rate will be reduced from £9.00 per hour to £8.00 per hour.  Hopefully, this will go some way towards compensating hirers' partial loss of income until conditions improve.

As I mentioned in the previous newsletter, the Terms and Conditions for hirers have been amended, and supplemented by additional Terms related to Covid-19. These can be read by clicking this link and all hirers are strongly advised to make themselves aware of them before booking as by making a booking, you are entering into a contract governed by those Terms and Conditions.

Finally, we are taking steps to update the Village Hall web site to make it easier to keep you informed.  This will take a while, but in the meantime we will do our best to keep in touch by means of these newsletters.  If you have any queries, do feel free to contact me at enquiries@tintinhullvillagehall.co.uk

With very best wishes
